Downtown Disney’s transformation to Disney Springs

Disney Springs

Disney Springs

Downtown Disney was originally opened in 1975 as the Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village. It was never meant to be a tourist attraction when thought up. Walt Disney World at first was going to have more residential areas, much like Disney’s Golden Oak, and what we call Downtown Disney was suppose to be a shopping district for these on-site residences. Later this idea dwindled and much of the property would just host hotels for vacationers. Well, since the opening the area has gone through vast amounts of changes, plus expansions, and with these adjustments the area has lost it’s unity. This is where Disney Springs comes in. Disney Springs is set to unify this area at Walt Disney World by creating the story behind the attraction. Check out this video to see what I’m talking about.

The first area, called “The Landing” is set to open in 2015. It will offer lakefront shopping and dining. Construction for the transformation from Downtown Disney to Disney Springs started back in March 2013. Disney Springs will include the following sections one complete:

  • The Marketplace
  • The Landing (formerly Pleasure Island)
  • The Town Center
  • The West Side

As construction continues we will keep you updated. “The Landing” is sure to be spectacular and 2015 will be here before we know it. Book your vacation with Global Resort Homes and make the most out of your vacation at Walt Disney World! Call Toll Free! 855-252-1550
